Idiot box : Changing trends and Talent shows

Television has been the major source of entertainment for years now. It started with few channels showing few programs such as weekly soaps, movies and music. It got enhanced by the cable or private channels showing sundry programs and live shows 24/7, taking the television industry to the next level. The new trend of live game shows was all about viewers, giving them a chance to participate in the show and make real money. This was one fast way of making easy and quick money and it soon spread like plague making way to more such programs. By then, the definition of television had changed. Now it had become a part of people's life from being a mere entertainment.

Change is important in any industry and television is no different. So when the game shows were losing grip on the viewers, the concept of live Talent shows started coming in. This was a new concept to the industry and soon gained popularity. People started getting hooked to them. Television became a platform for new talents. All kinds of talent shows that covered almost all fields were made. The most common among those were music and dance shows, followed by interior designing, entrepreneurship etc.

These talent shows are mainly focused on youngsters and children giving them a bigger platform to explore and nourish their talents. These competitions are a total package of attractive prizes, money, fame, and a lifetime opportunity to make a career. So the whole process of selection is hard and it is not very easy to be among the final participants, as they have to go through a long process of selection by a panel of judges. But people never stop trying their luck. It has become common practice to select the winner of any talent hunt by public voting. This makes viewers become part of these shows. But the public voting has raised some questions.

Is all the hype about these talent shows worth it? Does the general public take unbiased decisions? Does the real talent get to win? or is it just the popular participant? These are few questions that are difficult to answer. But why are such questions raised in the first place? These are debatable questions that are constantly raised whenever a show ends. Some people feel that the public voting system should not continue because voters base their votes on other criteria such as region, religion etc.. instead of talent, which is the main purpose of such shows. Some argue that such big decisions, which decide the person's fate, should not be given to a hand full of judges, who again can be biased. So is the talented candidate deprived because of bias or do the lucky ones get luckier? It is some thing to think about.

Manthras

Hinduism is a very unique religion. Unlike other religions, the hindu religion has different forms of the supreme power. Each of these forms represent different aspects of our life. For example, bramha is the creator, vishnu is the preserver and siva is the destroyer (god of death). Gods are worshipped in temples or MANDIRS (in sanskrit) in the form of idols. A mandir, MAN - once inner self, DIR - dwelling self, symbolizes that God is one's own inner self. So the best place to find God is in our own inner self. This needs a lot of patience and needs us to understand the true meaning of life. The first step towards self-realization is to keep a positive attitude and to have good thoughts and do good deeds. Slokas or Manthras help us do it.

SLOKAS or MANTRAS are basically prayers that are very effective if chanted properly. Every mantra has words or phrases with different sounds and vibrations that create positive energy all around you . One of the most powerful manthra of all manthras is 'OM'. This one word is believed to encompass the whole Universe. I read somewhere that "I AM' is the English equivalent of OM and is a very powerful phrase in English language. So "I Am" should not be used with any negative words like "poor", "angry", "sad" etc., instead we should use "I feel". Isn't that impressive? 'OM' is a symbol of deep realities of the universe and individual, it is also a roadmap to Self-realization. The Bhagawat Gita very much emphasizes this very statement. This manthra is not confined to any particular religion. It is universal. It is said that the vibrations produced by chanting OM infuses a new vigor.

A human body has a aura around it, which is mixture of both good and bad vibes, the proportion of which is dependent on ones thoughts . It is very important that we keep our mind and thoughts good and positive. One way of doing it is chanting manthras, which definitely can give peace to our wavering mind and create good vibs. Even places with positive energy make a difference. Few such places are Temple, Church or Mousque. Such places have existed for years for this reason. As enormous amount of manthras or good phrases are chanted in these places, which makes these places, fill with enormous amount of energy. Good words and good thoughts are all what mankind need today with all the violence and disasters around the globe. Every individual can achieve this by creating some good and positive thinking and positive energy around in their own way.
